UD Strong

On September 1, 2021, the first day of school, a tornado ripped through Upper Dublin, damaging many areas of our community including Fort Washington Elementary School and Upper Dublin High School. We will never forget the kindness and generosity of our community and beyond. The UD Strong funds we raised have supported our District’s greatest needs including classroom supplies that were destroyed during the storm.

With your help, UDEF has been able to make an impact when our schools needed it the most:

  • We purchased more than $15,000 in classroom supplies -- from teacher microphones to seat organizers -- as well as initiatives to ease the transition and welcome FWES students into the other elementary schools.

  • With the welcoming of our FWES students into our other elementary schools, our MGES, TFES and JES libraries have been a bit more stretched; so we purchased additional books to keep up with the demand.

  • Nearly 20 FWES teachers have lost many personal teaching supplies, all of their items accumulated through the years. UDEF is funding wish lists for these teachers to help them make their classrooms their own again.

After all needs are met in our schools with regards to the tornado's impact, residual funds will be used to enhance the curriculum and support educational experiences for students across the District.
